Vision loss, pins and needles, numbness... Pinched nerve?

by HCarroll, Jul 21, 2008 08:32PM
A friend of mine recently told me of the following symptoms they have been experiencing: pins and needles ("all extremities"), numbness ("all over body"), loss of balance ("sometimes just nearly fall over"), dizziness/vertigo ("things spin sometimes"), and vision loss ("it just all goes black"). This is a 34 y/o m, very active (trains/teaches specialized kickboxing each day) and eats rather healthy. He states that this has been going on (worsening though) since around March/April 2008 (4/5 months). He regularly participates in tournaments and when I asked if it is possible that he might have sustained some sort of neck/back trauma in that time frame from fighting, he said that it was very possible. I am wondering this: How likely is it that he is experiencing at least one pinched thoracic/cervical nerve and would that be enough to cause all of the mentioned symptoms? He hates going to doctors but I think he needs to maybe get one (or more) of a thoracic/cervical/brain MRI. I did a search on healthline.com using these symptoms and it only gave me one real response (Vertebrobasilar circulatory disorder). Advice on what it could be and if it could be anything life threatening would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Dear,
Trauma to the spinal cord may cause spinal stenosis and compression  responsible for neurological deficits, vertigo, loss of balance, numbness and loss of vision.Your friend should avoid strenuous activities and consult a neurophysician for timely treatment.
