Pleaze, I'm Worried!

by Valmeira, Jul 21, 2008 11:49PM
I walk outside onto the deck to bring in the kittens we put outside for the day and noticed my 2 month yr old siamese looking kitten didn't come when I called. so logically i look under the deck and find him there lying on the ground looking like he was starring at somethine. i called to him but he didn't respond, getting worried i climbed under and noticed he was unbalanced. after taking him inside i clean up some of the blood i saw around his nose/mouth area. he didn't did right like a normal cat and his upper half kept doind a whiring motion. and now sometimes he sits up, then lies down, then sits up again then lies down! he always has his eyes closed, and he nods his head like  he's slipping in and out of consciousness. and a couple times it looked like he was having somethine like a seizure, then he'll go back to sleep. also it sounds like there's stuff in his lungs and is breathing rapid. i'm thinking our dog hit him hard in the head or somethine, but i don't know! please, can someone give me some answer's!

There is absolutely nothing that anyone here can tell you based on the information that you gave.  What you MUST do, and you must do it ASAP, is to get this kitten to a 24-hour emergency vet!  There is obviously something very serious going on here, and from the sounds of things, if you do not get him to a vet as quickly as you can, by tomorrow morning it may be too late.  PLEASE take him to a vet NOW, there is no time to waste!  I cannot stress that enough!  Please keep is posted as to what you find out.  I hope the little one gets better!

if we take him to the vet, it won't be to heal him. =( he seems a bit better, not as wobbly. we feed him water with a dropper, about 5 drops at a time. he's in a quiet place so he can sleep. he's still urinating and pooping, so thas a good sign, i think his breathing has slowed a bit, at least at times. but i think it is brain trauma cuz he has slight sweeling ont he left side under his ear and left pupil is dialated a bit more than right. i hope he gets better soon, but ifit turns out he won't....well i'm more or less prepared. living on a farm doen't always mean you don't get teary when an animals dies on the farm.

Just an updaate. Cadence is going MUCH better! he's walking around, and more in a straigh line, he's eating mushed soft food, slowly, but still. tries to play with string occasionally or his other siblings. seems a lot more alert than before. breathing is normal and sounds healthier. still remebers how to use the litter box and climb stairs!!!

"if we take him to the vet, it won't be to heal him."  With all due respect, I'm sorry, I don't know how to respond to someone who thinks like this.  You have an obligation to your cat to either provide him with proper veterinary care or, if you don't want to do that, have him humanely euthanized.  But to just leave him without even having been examined by a vet to determine the severity of his injuries in the first place is just neglectful and, in some places, is a criminal offense.  Please, at least surrender him to your local humane society so that he can be examined and either be treated for his injuries, or humanely euthanized so he doesn't have to suffer through them.  You owe him that much.

Do you guys realize that you're talking to a 15 year old? She probably doesn't have a whole lot of say on this.
Valmeira, please talk to your folks and try and encourage them to take the cat to the vet. I know you wouldn't want him to suffer. I understand that you probably live on a farm or ranch, right? I know that a lot of people who do rarely take their pets to the vets. The pets are thought more of what they can do, like being a good mouser or watch dog or hunting dog, etc. I know it can be hard to change that kind of mindset. I have a friend who grew up like that so when she got 3 cats she didn't get them fixed or shots or anything. She had to get rid of the two males because they kept fighting over the female (I know, duh, right?), then the one cat got sick. I really liked my friend but it did upset me. She was a good person but just didn't think about things like that. I helped her get the vaccinations for the remaining pets and got the cat fixed finally.

Anyway, I know vet bills can get costly but they also keep your pets healthy, happy and hopefully around for a long time.
I hope your kitty will get better. I know you care. I know that's why you came on here. Keep in touch with us and let us know how he's doing, ok? I hope your parents will do the right thing. God bless.

no i know how it sounds. but to my parents, he's just a farm cat, said there's nothing they could do. i can't tell you how upset i got wen they said that to me. he's doing better thank god. he's evern playing with his other siblings!!! =D i'm so happy. i'm gonna go into town with my mom when she goes to pick up the dog from the vet and ask them. the only tihnk that's stumping me is that he'll eat his soft food no prob, even tried some hard and ate it. but he doensn't seem to lap water or suckle from his adoptive mom any more? that's what i'm worried about. please don't think of me as being cruel for nothaving the vet look at him then, i can't STAND it when my animals are hurt bad and there's nothing i can do, feeling helpless is a scarry thing. thank you April2 for helping out, and Ghilly i hope i havent' offended you in any way. the first two days where hell. i cried all the time, hardly slept or ate. but things are looking up, he's right here with me now playing with the computer cords. i'll keep you all updated often, but i'll be gone for the next week, camp. thanks guys!

the good news is he is doing better.  He is going to make it.  I don't see a need to worry anymore.

I think you did the best you could under the circumstances.

The cats with which my wife and I have shared our home have been pets, not working animals, but I understand that "farm cats" are looked upon differently.

You be well and may your kitten grow to healthy cathood.

My apologies to you, I didn't know that you were a teen who was not the decision maker when it comes to the medical treatment of the cats.  Knowing that, no, you did not offend me.  I do have to say that I wish that your parents had a different outlook on things, because just because an animal is a "working" animal doesn't release anyone from the responsibility of providing proper veterinary care for it, but it sounds to me like you have a different outlook, and when you are older and working and are old enough to be responsible for payments, you will handle things differently than your folks do.

I am VERY glad to hear that your kitten is doing well and is going to be fine!  That is just WONDERFUL news!  Take care and have a great summer!
