after tx problems

by ohio nurse, Jul 22, 2008 08:33AM
I finished a year of unsuccessful treatment last Aug and over the last few months have developed almost constant pain in my hands with swelling. I was also was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 20 years ago and have off and on pain issues. So my question is Has anyone else experienced this and is it the treatment ? Or can the treatment cause a worsening in fibro? I have been tested for other stuff and all negative. I have a vl of 1.3 mil all enzymes double normal and elevated afp. Can this be the hep c itself. I really need answers and ideas. I wake with this pain and other throughout body with stiffness everyday and its getting old fast.

personally, i think the tx causes fibromyalgia...and ibs... and a bunch of other things...

the swelling well it sounds like it might be edema... because the liver is not making the proteins needed in the blood, fluid often seeps out of the bloodstream into the tissues, causing generalized swelling (edema). This swelling affects the belly, legs and arms, and sometimes the face. Elevation of the legs, diuretic medications, and fluid and salt restriction may help these symptoms.

The pain and swelling in my hands and wrists is what drove me to the dr to discover the HCV.  My dr. told me that could have been caused by the virus.  And from reading here it seems To Me that it's pretty common amoung people with HCV.
JMHO.

So what have you been able to do to relieve this pain? I have been prescribed tramadol which helps but the worse is the mornings. I am trying Osteo biflex not doing anything for it.
