Just need advice

My partner and I were both treated for chlamydia in December 07 where by we were both positive.  My partner was tested again in June due to a urinary tract problem and was found to be positive again.  I therefore went along and was retested only to be found negative.  Please help as im confused.  We had unprotected sex all the time between January and May so how come i was negative.  We did use condoms between May and June as i was told to stop taking my pill due to an operation i had planned.  Is it possible that he contracted it again from someone else in these 2 months and because of using condoms did not pass it to me, or is it possible that it did not clear when he was treated in December.  We did not wait the full 7 days prior to having sex, even though we used protection.  He assures me that he has been faithful, i am just so confused by it all.  My gp explained that I could have had it also but it cleared itself prior to me being tested again?

Yes this is confusing. I would recommend one more retest. The reason I say this is you both have been treated. If you received the recommended dose of antibiotics then you both will be disease free. Chlamydia is very reponsive to the macrolide and tetracycline antibiotics. No reported resistences yet. So why did he test positive ?  .. well research has shown the the newer pcr test can detect Chlamydia surface protein months after clearing the infection. This research is being done in mice but should correlate to human infection too. So retest one more time you should be both negative and fine..relax..take care.e
