swollen pelvis/shrunken penis

by RajaTS, Jul 22, 2008 10:24AM
Dear sir/madam,

My son is now 4 & 1/2 years old. He was normal by birth but with a bit small penis. But after few months we have noticed that he has a swollen pelvis, due to which his penis go inside the pelvis( like turtle neck). Per the doctors (so far) it is due to some extra fats at pelvis which will be normalized or reduced by the time as the child will grow bigger, and penis will be start showing as normal.

But now as the child is more than 4 years of age and having good height and physical health (weighing about 24kilos), the problem is still there.

Also i mention here the child was Circumcised at the time of birth which is a muslim ritual.

Now my question is:

How this problem could be treated?
How come we now he will behalve sexually a healthy or normal male when grown up as adult.(very important)

I will really appreciate your help to receive answer in detials to my above mentioned worries.

Hi,

Penile retraction can occur in individuals who have pads of fat around the inguinal region.
In infants with this condition, adequate care should be exercised by the mother in cleaning the area in view of the consequences of infection in this area.

If circumcision was performed, care should have been taken to avoid trauma during circumcision and development of adhesions.

If the retraction is due to the presence of fat in the inguinal region, the condition will improve as the child grows.

If the retraction is due to adhesions following circumcision, then you will need corrective surgery which can be performed by a plastic surgeon.

You will need to consult a urologist and s/he will decide the extent and type of intervention required after examining the child.

Do keep us posted.
Regards
