Inconclusive HSV 2 results

by qryas, Jul 22, 2008 10:33AM
I just got a call from my doctor's office saying I have an inconclusive HSV 2 test result and should go back to the office in three months for a re-test. What does this mean? She said my number was .97 which is neither a negative nor a positive. My last year's test result was less than .9 which she said is a definite negative.
What steps / measures should I take now? Is it too soon for me to call my ex to let him know?
Thanks.

Are you having symptoms of anything?  I'm not sure why you are testing.

I wouldn't let your ex know anything right now - you don't even know if you have it.  Most inconclusive results end up being negative.

Test again in a month or so.

I haven't had any of the classic HSV 2 symtoms. At the beginning of May I had my last sexual encounter with my ex which was unprotected and included oral. In the morning I noticed that he had a cold sore. When I mentioned it to him, he said he had felt it coming on from the night before (and still gave me oral). A couple weeks after that I had vaginal itching which I treated with an OTC yeast infection treatment which helped. Besides that I also had itching which was mostly around my thighs but was also all over (the kind of itching that is creepy crawly). I thought it may have been psychological since I spotted a cold sore on him the morning after oral sex. Besides that, I've had a bump that went away real quick, just like the usual in grown hairs I get.....and then my test results. I have always had STD tests done at my yearly Gyn exam.

Oh then at this point, I wouldn't even assume you have genital herpes.

If you get another bump or sore, get it cultured within 24-48 hours of it appearing, and go from there.

If your partner had oral hsv1, and you got genital herpes from that, you would have genital hsv1, not 2.  The type doesn't change.  If you are worried about hsv2 from being with him, don't, unless he has hsv2.
