Mass on hind leg

by speclib, Jul 22, 2008 01:58PM
I have a 9 year old German Shepard mix. We just noticed a swollen area on his hind leg. It is on the inner side of his upper hind leg. It seems semi hard maybe like a water balloon and is sort of oval or banana shaped. I have seen not evidence of trauma or bites and it does not seem top be causing him any pain.  Any thoughts or suggestions as to what it might be. Short from a vet visit is there anything I should do?  Thanks

German Shepherds are prone also to hip dysplasia which leads to them to experiencing pain in later life. I believe your dog has something related to this or a muscular problem. You said that he is not in any pain, I wonder if it is a cyst...I would suggest a trip to the vet also because your dog is a senior and he could have developed some issues related to the age like I said previously.

If you are saying that it is mass like it may be a cyst.  You can go to the vet and get a needle biopsy done right there and they can tell you.  If it is a large swollen area I would get to the vet as well.  Good Luck
