hpv

I just read that 6-9 months after removal of genital warts the virus is gone.  Is this true?  After removal of the genital warts and there are no warts on the penis can the virus still be spread during sex?  Once you have had genital warts and they are removed, do you always have the hpv virus?  Does having genital warts mean that you are always contagious?
