STD Possibility??

Hi Doctor -

Fisrt off, great service you provide here. It's very much appreciated. However, tt's too bad I feel I need to ask for advice. Anyway, I had protected intercourse with a woman the morning of July 4th. When I pulled out of her vagina I noticed that the condom had slipped off, though I could see the base of the condom hanging outside her pubic area. The woman disposed of the condom and I don't really have a fear that it broke.

That day I began to feel extremely remorseful and anxious. My anxiety level has been through the roof, needless to say, since that early morning. After copious amounts of research online I DO NOT seem to exude the classic symptoms of any STDs, per se (i.e. no burning urination, no foreign blisters, brackish discharge, sores, fever, etc). However, I do believe I had the following beginning several days to a week later:

1) split second tingles and pin pricks; sporadic itching (still have once in a while)
2) slightly swollen head of the penis that came and went for several days (has gone away)
3) slightly sore penis (although not sore to the touch; seemed sore, if that makes sense; seems to have gone away)
4) one instance today wherein my testicle sac seemed more taut and slighly swollen; wenet away after a couple of hours

I was thinking that some, most or all could have been related to my high anxiety level (at least I hope so), as I have read that high anxiety levels can cause "symptoms."  I have no reason to believe this older woman is harboring anything, although I suppose I could ask her. I examine my genital area constantly and don't observe any of the "classic" symptoms I wrote about above or have read about.

Lastly, for what it's worth, I do sweat alot, especially in the genital area and sometimes reuse my same towel at the gym or wear the same jock strap several days in a row. Not sure if that could be the cause and a coincidence.

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

From your description, most likely your sex was condom protected; probably your penis pulled out of the condom while it was still in place.

In any case, no STD is a likely cause of the symptoms you describe.  They sound more like anxiety, i.e. increased awareness of normal sensations due to your anxiety over the sexual encounter -- exactly as you suspect yourself.

If your symptoms persist or you otherwise remain concerned, visit a health care provider for examination and testing.  Your local health department STD clinic would be an excellent place for highly expert, confidential care at low cost (or free).  In the meantime, try to relax.  It is unlikely you caught any STD.

Thanks for the thanks about the forum.  I hope this is helpful.
