Desperate! Ribavirin Acidosis

by maylilly, Jul 22, 2008 09:22PM
I just took my 24th PGINF 2a shot, am halfway through tx, 800 mg riba/day. I have painful acidosis and don't know if there is anything I can do to help it. I have had this since the beginning of tx, but is is extremely painful and worse now. My doc has prescribed Levsin and Nexium. Nexium makes my joints hurt, so I stopped taking it. Does anyone know of anything I can do or take to make me able to exist w/out pain and GI inflamation?

Thanks in advance.

My husband takes Protonix. He was also unable to tolerate Nexium.

Good luck in finding something that works for you and gives you relief.

I am not on treatment, yet. So I cannot help you with this.

But I was just wondering if you are taking your Riba with food and enough fat?

I hope that you will feel better soon.

I've never heard of Nexium making someone's joints hurt, by I've heard many say tx makes their joints hurt.  Nexium or any of the PPI's will definitely relieve your symptoms if you take it long enough.  Your joints are probably going to hurt regardless so it's a matter of what bothers you more -  your stomach or your joints and would the trade off be worth it.  There are other PPI's available but they all have the same basic ingredients.
Antacids are out because of the calcium so I'm sorry I have no other suggestions other than limiting the amount of spicy and high fat foods you consume and making sure you eat every time you take the riba.  Good Luck
