Does clotting mean miscarriage?

by Mari40, Jul 22, 2008 09:50PM
My last period was on June11th, 2008 I found out I was pregnant on July 7th with a home test. On the 9th I went to have urine done and hcg blood testing. It came back at 13,000.  On July 21 I started spotting. I went to get more blood drawn and hcg level was at this time 8,447. I have had a miscarriage before at very early stages.

My lower abdomin feels like something is still inside. I feel bloated and even though I know my hcg is higher that 1,000. Could I possibly still be safe?  I am suppose to be at about 6 weeks now.  I have been clotting but it only come out when i used the bathroom and wipe. I have been wearing panty liners and no major blood spillage.  Can you give me some possible options. I go back to the doc's on thursday the 24th.

The fact that your HCG dropped that much is not a good sign.  HCG should be doubling at this stage every 48 hours with NO drops in it.  Once you hit 12-13 weeks, it can start to taper off but at this early stage, you should not be dropping.  With the bleeding as well, honestly, it doesn't look good.  I'm so sorry.  I had a miscarriage in Dec. and had cramping and minor bleeding- same thing, when I wiped, and then it tapered off for about 3 weeks and I thought everything was fine as we had a sonogram as 12 weeks and baby was fine and at 13 weeks 4 days when I went back, heart had stopped beating.  You don't have to have a lot of blood to be having a miscarriage.  Usually, no blood is called a missed miscarriage and they are very common.  Some blood probably means you are starting to miscarry, especially with the dropping levels and clotting, and as I'm sure you know, at 6 weeks, there is not a lot to pass. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm sorry to say but it sounds like a miscarriage.

Your HCG levels at this stage should never drop, especially as dramatically as it did.

I hope I'm wrong.

On Thursday, have them do another blood draw.

Good Luck
