HIV Testing window??

by JH85, Jul 22, 2008 10:40PM
Hello Doctor,

I unfortunately visited a massage parlor on 5 occasions. On three of those occasions I received handjobs. On one I received oral sex and the I had vaginal sex. I used condoms on all occasion. In June I took an HIV blood test one month after possible exposure. The results for that came back negative.

I still wasn't reasured and I took another HIV blood test a week later. The results for that came back negative. My doctor advised me to retake the test three months after a possible exposure to get accurate results.

I am wondering if the first two tests took have any credibility on proving whether I am HIV negative? I understand that the tests don't fit within the three month window, but do those two tests provide any indication of me being HIV negative. I am very worried and just need to be reassured.

Thank you Doctor!

Hello,

From experience I can be certain that you will not acquire HIV from hand job.

That leaves us with 2 scenario. Both of have protected. You have no symptoms even  one month later.

This is very good news indicating that you have not been infected. Your 4 week test results are very good .

According to Doc Edward 4 week is about 85 - 90 % good. 6 week is about 95 - 99% good.

Eventhough the poster didn't have a risk. Your analayis of symptoms is totally wrong. More than half the people who actually get infected have never had symptoms at all.
