HCV+ adopting a little one

by 4timesmama, Jul 22, 2008 11:59PM
Hi everyone,

My husband and I and family (3 children at home) are adopting a little girl with a + HCV from Taiwan but the doctor says she needs further testing since she is 15 months old and had the last test at 12 months (test reads: Anti HCV: positive).  We are absolutely ecstatic about her and can't wait to bring her home.  We have no idea whether or not she will clear the HCV on her own but we know she is our daughter.  I need to know what test to request from our pediatrician when she comes home and maybe a quick run down of basic medical needs she may have.  The orphanage workers say she is in great daily health and her echo and architecture of her liver, GB, pancreas, etc. are all normal.

I am a little concerned about her slight anemia and the fact that she will need iron which I've heard is hard on a liver... any advice on how to approach this with her doctor?  I actually have a ton of questions as I am an info hound and need to know everything from which herbs may be bad... can we use any pain killers at all if she is in horrible pain with teething? etc.  Also what are some ideas for keeping the toothbrushes separate... I have a little one who likes to try and use everyone's toothbrushes so we need ideas.  My husband aunt cleared HCV a few years ago which she had for 30 years so we are not complete novices but our aunt wasn't using our toothbrush either.  Thanks for helping me out.  =0)
