Chest Inflamation not improving

For the last 9 days i have been experiencing a sharp pain in the upper chest area on my right side near the top of my rib cage. I went to a local hospital 5 days ago and the doctor advised me i had costochondritis. I was prescribed an anti-inflammatory which I am still taking, but 5 days later there seems to be no improvement. The pain seems more central now as well as to the right and as I know nothing about this type of illness I am concerned. I have had some very stressful times recently and also had a right ear infection for which I am not sure if it went completely away and also stopped smoking cannabis just as this pain started. I am concerned the pain is still there and that I may have been misdiagnosed,so this is my question: What are the causes of costochondritis?, What is it? and, What is the best care and treatment of this?
