Clomid side effects?

Hi my DH has been on Clomid for almost 2 months. He just started having vision problems. For the last couple of weeks he's been seeing floaters in the right side of vision. I called my RE office a few days ago and they said for him to start taking every other day instead of everyday and well see if that helps. Does anyone know if this side effect is really bad or if it can cause long term damage?

I've never heard of a man taking clomid, so I don't know about that!

The side effects that I had with Clomid all dissipated once I stopped taking it.  HTH!

Vision problems are a very common s/e on Clomid. I had double-vision and blurred vision when I took it. Once the last pill was taken, all s/e went away.

Is he taking it for testosterone production? Do men take the same dosage as women? Women rx is usually 100mg for 5 days each cycle. If men take it longer than women, I imagine the s/e would be more severe.

Hi my Dh actually has a varicocele but his testosterone was on the low end of normal so our RE had him taking 50mg everyday. Now he's taking one pill every other day. He was suppose to be on it for 3 months before they did another SA, but because of the side effect he's having a SA done next week to see if anything has changed before they keep him on it longer.

I worry that not enough was done to discover the cause of the low testosterone. Even though a varicocele can cause lower testosterone a more complete panel of hormones should be run. Did you guys run other test? Was a specific answer given as to why his testosterone was low? Ask about Nolvadex it is stronger and might not have the same side effects. What was his testosterone level? Were you guys able to get pregnant ever? My level was 379 and I am worried. I saw an endocrinologist and am awaiting a more complete retest of my hormones. I actually got my wife pregnant last year but she miscarried. I don't mean to be nosy, but I might be in a similar situation soon.

My husbands testosterone was 383.47 so pretty similar to yours. His thyroid was 1.20 and his FSH was 2.5. I looked these up online and his testosterone is still in normal ranges, but the low end of normal. At least that's what I found? The only test Dh had was blood work, physical and 2 SA's. Weve never been pregnant before. Were going next week for another SA. I'm going to ask about Nolvadex. What did your DR tell you?

Wow Bree,  Every day for 3 mos! Yeah, I'd say he'd experience the s/e. I only took it for 5 days and had major hot flashes and the vision issues. Poor thing! The good part is, they do go away after the rx is finished. I hope it works for him/you.

I thought he was doing really good because he barely had any side effects till about 2 or so weeks ago besides his occasional mood swings. They told us if the Clomid doesn't work they'll consider surgery for his varicocele so maybe they'll do the surgery which is what I wanted in the first place. I'm glad to hear that the side effects will go away. I felt kinda bad for him. Thank you :)

Basically my doctor told me I am fine, because I am in range. That isn't good enough for me so I am seeing and endocrinologist that is testing me more completely. They received the results and I am waiting for my appointment in a little less than two weeks. The last time I took the test I lost 20 pounds in three weeks due to stress. The endo said that could be a major factor in the level also I am overweight so I am currently working on that. You should get these checked FSH, LH, Total testosterone, Free testosterone, estradiol, prolactin, and SHBG. The male endo axis consists of these parts testes, thyroid, hypothalamus, liver, and adrenal glands. They should all be tested. There are two types of low testosterone in men or "hypogondal" men they are secondary and first. Secondary would be a cause other than the testes themselves and first would be the actual testes themselves aren't functioning properly. Most doctors don't know much about hormones so be prepared before you see your doctor unless he or she is experienced. Make a new post after and I will give input.  Also there is something called HCG bodybuilders use it to jump start natural testosterone production after using steroids. I am not sure the effects on sperm count though. I have recently learned that testosterone levels do not always directly effect sperm count it depends on the cause. If there is a problem it is important to first identify it before fixing it. It could get worse and he could go into something called "andropause" or male menopause with all the same effect. In this case Hormone Therapy Treatment might be necessary and it would in most cases be for life. Good Luck

FSH indicates sperm production. If the cause of your husbands problem is the varicocele his LH and FSH would be elevated. I have been doing research and talking to alot of other guys with hormonal problems. Floaters in the eyes could indicate a pituitary problem. I tested high on prolactin and I started having some floaters in my right eye recently. I really think he should test LH, FSH, E2, Total testosterone, free and bioavailable testosterone (low total testosterone would mean less if this is within range) and prolactin. If his FSH and LH are low and all his testosterone levels are low normal too HCG could help, but it shuts down natural production.
