Hurthle Nodule Surgery

by Cherylm203, Jul 23, 2008 10:04AM
Hi All,
When your biopsy was questionable... how long did you wait for surgery?

I can't get in to have my initial appt with the surgeon until the first week of September!

I am nervous b/c they found these Hurthle cells in my nodule... my doctor said they have not spread...but if we waited for years maybe.... how would she know that? She also said we can go in and do a second biopsy and the cells would not even show up... some of my nodule was cystic as well.

I want to be proactive about my health not be made to feel warm and fuzzy b/c I am a nervous person and very upset about these findings.

I know nothing else about the specifics of the ultrasound or the biopsy.

But the fact that I am not on a priority list is making me very upset.... maybe I'm not in need of dire attention?

Thanks again guys-- the responses I got on Saturday really helped me!!

My biopsy said hurthle cell lesion and I waited nearly four months for surgery!  The pathology came back and there was no mention of hurthle cells, unfortunately though, there was mention of papillary cancer. :(

I know Sept seems like a far way away (especially when you are very concerned / worried / scared) but it will be here before you know it (only 6 weeks away).

I'm sending you best wishes and some e-patience!

Thanks D!
I know what you mean, I should try to enjoy the summer.... I am really trying to block out these negative thoughts!!!

How are you doing since your diagnoses... mentally and physically?

Its been a tough road for sure, both mentally and physically.

Having two surgeries was tough, facing the "c" word is tough, but I guess time helps and so does the love and support of family, friends and even strangers on forums such as this!

I'm preparing for LID and then RAI in August, so wish me well!
