Yasmin Birth Control and Mitral Valve Prolapse

I have been in and out of the ER twice in the past 7 months for pelvic/abdominal pain. The CT scan/pelvic U/S shows a moderate amount of free fluid in my pelvic area with a 2.5 cm cyst on my left ovary. Finally my OBGYN suggests that I have a laparoscopy done to find the source of pain and/or to remove the cysts. He also gave me the alternative option of trying Yasmin to help stop the formation of these cysts that apparently keep forming & rupturing. Initially I opted for the surgery but now I'm thinking it's best to try the birth control first. During my first ER visit I was also diagnosed with mild Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) which I forgot to mention to my OBGYN . My concern is my MVP and birth control use. I have read that you should not take Yasmin if you have a valve disorder. Do think that it is unsafe for me to take Yasmin considering my situation? Also, do you think that I should proceed with the surgery or try birth control to stop my symptoms first? Your advice is truly appreciated!
