Just diagnosed please help

by ellie72, Jul 23, 2008 12:59PM
Hi all,
I was diagnosed 9th June, I had a cyst removed that was a complexed mass, 3 wks later  was told i had ov ca.
They said it was early (thought) stages. The cyst was huge but only a small part was cancer, Mucinous carcinoma.
When it was removed the washing were clear of malignancy, all my other organs looked good, as they left everthing in tact.
I have decided to have a full hysterectomy, as I am so scared of ths disease, it s planned for next wed 30th July.
My CT is clear my CA125 is normal.
My worries that is is going to be further spread when they do biopsies next week, they said its unikely!!  am in such a state right now, please can someone respond who has been through the same thing

I went through the same thing but with a different ovca dx,  I had the ovary removed, all looked fine, but 3 weeks later found out I had granulosa cell tumor - 1C. My CA 126 was normal but it's not a marker for gct. 4 weeks later I had a complete hysterectomy with pelvic washes and biopsies.  Everything was clear. It sounds like what you had was confined to a small area of the ovary and if the ovary was removed intact (didn't rupture) it is hopeful that you will be okay.  Clear washings are a good sign.

The main thing is to make sure your hysterectomy is performed by a gynecologic oncologist.  They are especially trained to deal with gyn/reproductive cancers and will make sure you are properly taken care of.  Try not to worry - I know it's easier said than done but it sounds like you are early stage and that's a much better place to be to start any treatment.  Let us know how things go.  Best wishes, Chris P

IN 2000 I had my right ovary/tube removed, the final pathology came back as Stage 1A.  That surgery was preformed by an  OB/GYN....I was immediately referred to a GYN/ONC and have been in his care ever since.  I had the rest removed in 2004, that surgery was done by my GYN/ONC and I remain in his care.

Keep in touch!!!
