Pain weeks after a root canal

by Minako, Jul 23, 2008 01:13PM
Hello,

I got a tooth infection in may , went to the Dentist, at first she could not figure out why I had pain, since nothing was showing on the x-rays, but I told her that tooth was sometime painfull since I had a filling done 2 years before, she removed the old filling and there it was the roots where completely infected, she put me on the penicillin for 7 days, after 3 days the pain was getting worse and I was getting very sick, so she double it and added 5 more days….   I went back for my root canal and a week later got the crown installed…. When she did the root canal, she told me part of my nerve was stuck in my sinus, she showed me the x-ray, you could clearly see on it the white filament going from my tooth to the sinus cavity doing some sort of loop at the end …. She told me it could not be removed because it was too deep inside my sinus and because of the odd shape. She told me I would have to live with it for the rest of my life. The problem is that after almost 2 months I still have pain when eating especially to cold  temperature and maybe pressure because the when I start eating it is not that bad, but after a few bites the pain increase ….

Is there something I can do ? maybe see an Othorinolaryngologist ?

Thanks for all your help.

I would see a specialist.  Fixing this probelm may have been beyond the knowledge of your dentist but maybe a specialist could treat it.  I would not settle with your dentists answer of this is just going to be the way it is for the rest of your life until you have consulted with a specialist.
