Diabetes and Thyroid

by Bethie0112, Jul 23, 2008 01:15PM
I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in Dec 07.  I take Metformin twice a day 1000mg and Tricor and Lisinopril and Byetta.   I had blood work done this week and it showed improvement in all those areas.  BUT the thyroid tests were:
T4  .99               TSH 5.531         and  TPO 912

What does all this mean?  Is it hypothyroidism or hashimotos? Could it be the metformin?  A doctor thought I might be hypo one day about 12 years ago, but the second test came back in range.
Height 5 foot Weight 210

What does this mean for my diabetes?
Thank you

This means early hypothyroidism due to hashimoto's.  Would repeat the test in 5-6 weeks and if still with an increased TSH then likely treat given the potential benefit on cholesterol and metabolism.
