Another pain/spasm type question.

by Me967, Jul 23, 2008 02:02PM
Hi.  I noticed that most people with muscle/joint spasms tend to be hypoT or have an thyroid issues.  I'm only ~2 months into this thyroid issue stuff so please bear with me.  I have noticed that a lot of people also have a vita. D, calcium, or iron issues.  Plus a lot seems to crave salt in a large way.

I have had these issues with the muscle and joint spasms for years off and on.  I have also had high BP, chest pains and heart palps for years in which is treated with a beta blocker and diuretics.  I try to avoid salt for these reasons.  I used to use quinine water to try to help with the spasms.

I noticed now (and off and on threw the years) that I crave salt like crazy (in a no way normal sort of way).  When I eat salty chips now I don't seem to have the pains and spasms as bad and (as crazy as it sounds) it seems to sort of calm the chest pains and BP too and that should not be true.....though it does raise the HR.

Does salt help to make the pains ease up?  Is there certain calcium or iron pills that are better than others?  Is there a main reason why thyroid people seem to have more issues with pains???   Dry mouth is also another question - but does not relate here I guess.  I could go on and on and on with the questions like the energizer buddy.

If anyone could chime in and take a whack at this it would be great!

I get muscle spasms all the time.., and weird places like my behind.  I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in Sep 06 and thyca surgery in Dec 06.  The spams started shortly after the surgery.   I have no clue if any thing can be done for the spasms.

Hi There-

One thing I noticed that you mentioned in your post was that you crave salt all the time.  Have you been tested for Addison's disease?  I know one of the key symptoms with that disease is craving for salt.  Just a thought.
