What is causing this chest pain?

by SKCO, Jul 23, 2008 02:53PM
I am a healthy and active 24 year old woman.  About two weeks ago I started having a burn and aching in my chest right over my left breast.  After a couple days it turned in the a sharp stabbing pain which felt to me how a heart attack would feel. I went to the emergency room where they did an EKG..normal, x-ray normal, Elevated D-Dimer and a normal CT scan. They sent me home saying it was Gastritis.

Four days later the pain had still not gone away and it felt as if someone was sitting on my chest and my arms started going numb.  I went to Urgent Care because my doctor could not get me in. Again my D-Dimer was elevated but my EKG normal so they sent me to the hospital. They repeated the tests and again couldn't find a clot or embolism.  My family doctor then tested my liver and kidneys, both fine but said my enzyme levels indicated a viral infection which they can't treat and sent me to have an echocardiogram.

That came back normal but I am still having almost constant pain. It's been two weeks now and I have no idea what is causing it.  It doesn't peak when I'm eatting and I have normal breathing until the pain is super bad and it hurts to take too deep of a breathe.  Any ideas?
