Question of timing?

First, thank you for your assistance back in the early winter when I posted a concern,  which turned up a positive HSV-2 result, unfortunately.   You were very helpful and supportive.

Since becoming positive, I had the "talk" with my new partner who is not infected.  I had not had an outbreak since my initial episode, but have consistently practiced safe sex (condom) due to the possibility of shedding, etc.

On Wed of last week (approx 7 days) we were intimate in a "vigorous" manner (as all the website say).   Well, the condom broke and we noticed before ejaculation, but it was definitely unprotected for a short while.  Two days ago, he complained of a pain underneath his knee, which is exactly what happened to me in the initial stage (that, and a whole host of other unpleasant pains and aches).  But, we are both runners and had just come back from the track.

The problem is that I now have tingling and slight pains in my knees as well.  I know it is common for sex to wake the virus... but i'm wondering how quickly the virus travels from the root to the skin surface once activated.   Could it have reached in the amount of time we were having sex?   All this, of course, assuming that I wasnt already shedding.   And on that note, if I am indeed having prodromal symptoms right now, could i have been shedding 7 days ago as well?

Thanks again!

You probably weren't shedding then.

Are you on valtrex or acyclovir?  That can reduce the risk from about 4% a year to about 2% a year.  That might help ease your mind about all this.

I wouldn't worry about tingling behind the knees, especially if you are both runners.

Thanks for the response AJ,
I'm hoping for the best... he hasnt said anything that would indicate a problem and this would be day 8.

I am not on either of those medications... mainly because I haven't had trouble with outbreaks.   But, I suppose it would ease my mind a bit more should something like this happen in the future.   Its nerve racking - i'd hate to subject somebody else to this!

Will keep you posted!
