Hard burning stomach

by Lightofdawn06, Jul 23, 2008 06:20PM
Hi!  I'm 20 years old and for a long time, I don't remember when it started, probably about a year ago I noticed that when I laid flat and pressed on the left side of my stomach it was hard and burned in the center of my stomach (like heartburn).  It is not hard like that on the right side and doesn't bother me to press on it.  Lately I've been under a lot of stress and have noticed it more, but I'm getting the burning feeling even when I do not press on my stomach.  It is worst when I'm just sitting in a chair.  I thought it might be something to do with my esophagus because the burning is in the center, upper part of my stomach and sometimes a little into my chest... but because of the extra "hard stomach/intestine" I don't know what to think.  I'm going to a doctor, when I get home but I was hoping maybe you would have some ideas just to calm my fears a bit.  It doesn't sound like stomach/intestinal cancer does it? or an enlarged liver?  I'm just scared and was hoping to get some advice before I can get to my doctor.

Cancer can't be felt from the outside, 20 is not the age for colorectal cancer (its 50+), and gastric cancer is not the first thing you should think about.

Gastric burning, heartburn and bloating (if this is what you say hard stomach) are symptoms of gastritis or gastric/duodenal ulcer.

It will help, if you avoid anything acidic; vinegar, fruits, also alcohol, aspirins, vit C, ibuprofen, and if you limit heavy protein/fatty foods, what in general is animal food.

You may want to order a test for H. pylori, which is the most common cause of chronic gastritis.
