researching methods to help reduce withdrawal symtoms from hydrocodone

by lirelda, Jul 23, 2008 07:43PM
I am addicted to hydrocodone. I want to quit. I  know that cold turkey may
not be the best option in this case because I have heard terrible things about
the withdrawals. I am not sure if I am strong enough to gradually cut back.
I am looking for herbal remedies that may help through the quitting process.
Medications or any tips are welcome. And I would love to talk to someone
who has been through this.
Thank you

Welcome, and you have come to the right place.  The thomas recipe and amino acid protocol are located on the lower right side of this page.  I think they'll help you out.  Any detox you choose is not without discomfort, but its a small price to pay to have your life back.  Again, welcome and keep posting.

Thank you for your response.  I have kept me addiction a secret. It is so nice
that I found somewhere to go and be open about it. I have been reading some of the posts here and I think I've come to the right place!  My problem started out small but for the last year and a half it's been alot worse. It sounds like you are doing great! Do you
know if anxiety medication helps with withdrawal?
Thanks again for your response!

So many of us kept our addiction secret, but there is some truth in the saying that we're only as sick as our secrets. If you were in a detox facility I believe you would be given small amount of a mild tranquilizer but I've been there (although from alcohol) and it only helps a little.  As you read these posts, remember you're reading the words of a lot of people who went through withdrawal and it was no fun at all, but there is a definite end to it.  The MINUTE you stop using the drugs, no matter how bad you might feel, you are actually on the road to feeling great all the time.  The anxiety is part of withdrawal and will begin to improve the longer you're off the pills.  There is a post acute withdrawal syndrome, called PAWS, which lasts for several months after the acute withdrawal has ended but if you're prepared for it, and know that it too will end, you'll be better off.  Please also consider going to Narcotics Anonymous, or AA to get the support you need. Since you've been reading the posts you know that I am a huge supporter of Twelve Step groups, along with this site, to get you through all this.  Believe in yourself and your ability to change for the better....

The thomas recipe is a great source of information for supplements to help with detox...Also..keep posting keep reading..u r afraid of the easiest part of getting clean which is the week or so of physical wds...for me it was 4 day of feeling like i had a bad case of the flu....this part is really not that bad in comparison to the aftermath..staying clean is what u need to consider and have a plan for aftercare...staying clean is the hard part..the mental aspect of this and not the flu u will feel for several days...get urself stocked up on the recipe and go for it...lots of support here
