xanax withdraw

by abby10, Jul 24, 2008 01:40AM
to Ryan,
i have taken12mg of xanax for 7 years. i have been withdrawing for 1 year with klonipan first, now valium. i just take 1/8mg but am still suffering badly. i have bad migraines but worse are the leg pains. there is "electrical" activity in them it surges and hurts so much then quiets down, then surges again. how can this still be happening after so long? what does it take to get off these things? the neurologist just keeps trying new meds on me and i am not taking topamax. i am beginning to think this damage is permanent. (fried brain) if you will. i hope not, i want my life back. any advise.
thanks

12mg!!!!!!!! Who the H E L L put you on such a massive dose of Xanax and then KEPT you on it for 7 YEARS? I hate to tell you that whoever this prescriber is, they are a TOTAL MORON!
Using Klonopin and diazepam to help you w/d was the right way to go, but the fact you are suffering with so many physical problems, my GUESS is that your taper is going too fast for you. Not that after such a long time and at such a high dose, you're going to get off "scott free" from SOME anxiety while going through the w/d process, but it shouldn't be to the degree you are dealing with now.
If you go up to the right hand corner of this page, you will see a box that says "MedHelp Search." If you type in "Xanax Withdrawl," or "Ryan/Xanax," it should pull up all the information he has written about this subject. If neither of those work, keep trying related words and you should eventually find it. Otherwise, I hope Ryan himself will see this and write you.
Personally I would suggest you get back with your doctor and discuss your taper and the symptoms you are dealing with now. If it's the same doctor who got you into this mess to begin with, I think I would find a new one! If you call a physcian referral line and ask for a doc who is well versed in benzo w/d, you would be doing yourself a tremendous favor!
Please let us know how you're doing, OK? And keep posting if you can't find the help you need! We'll help you find it!
Peace

Ryan is probably in his bathroom about now thinking about his trip to Paris tomorrow. He will be away for a while. As was said above, 12mg? Bloody heck.

the psychiatrist's name is dr dida ganjoo/sood. she actually had me on 8mg of xanax and 30mg of temazapam. the other 4 were from a dr i saw before her that i did'nt stop seeing. before that a dr had me on 8mg of ativan and 15mg of temapazam. that was in early 2000. but ativan made my face yellow and my breast lactate. i thought 8mg was pretty much standard, i know now i was hooked from the start, i mean really hooked. along with the alcohol, the years became the "lost years". in dec, 2007, the neuro said to take klonipan to detox and i read on a website about valium to detox. i went to dr ganjoo to get valium but she wrote me a script for xanax again. i told her about valium to detox, that i did'nt want xanax anymore or temapazam. in 2007 she had started giving me 6mg of xanax instead of 8 because i was taken to the hospital in severe withdraw and the nurse at the hospital called her in the middle of the night and wanted to know why i had been given such high doses. the nurse threw away a full bottle, 120-8mg xanax. fortunatly i had some more at home so did'nt go into seizures. i don't  understand these doctors. i honestly thought the withdraws were a small part of my problem. that these panic attacks were my fault and i did'nt understand why i was so crazy without them and why everything felt normal when i took one. i just needed them to live. now my body is full of "electricity" starts in my head then my legs.  the pain last night was really bad.  i hope it's not permanent.

8 mg xanax is unbelievable!  I didn't even think xanax comes in that higher dosage.  I had severe withdraw from xanax.  Was in hospital for a week.  I did not have the symtoms you are having.  The only symptoms I had was uncontrolled shaking.  I was only on 3 mg a day.  I hope your symtoms are not permanent, but I really do not know.  I would guess, and this is my oppinion, once it is out of your systom, you will be ok.  You will have to wean verrrrrry slowly.  It would take a while from the dosage you were on.  Be careful, and get information regarding this matter.  This is serious business.

8mg can be put together from 1mg tablets. Take 8 of them. That's your 8mg.
