frustrated with vision issue and Neurologists

by Kris189, Jul 24, 2008 03:30AM
Hello, i have visited a neurologist and have had numerous tests such as an mri, ct, eeg etc all clear. i have suffered from migraines for 12 years and my vision has been weird ever since they started. the vision is similar to the aura i get prior to suffering from a migraine but not as full on, My vision is abnormal as i can't stand bright lighting and have trouble focusing, trying to read in lectures is difficult due to the brightly lit background - same goes for computers. it's as though everything appears too bright similar to that out of it feeling you get before fainting. i've been told verapamil and valproic acid or lamotrigine may help my situation, it would be great to see if it does improve my condition but i'm unsure if ill be able to even try the drugs as i don't think the neurologist will be convinced. He allowed me to try adalat the last time i saw him which did nothing. what should i do if he doesn't allow me to at least try the medications which could help me?? i'm desperate

Hi,

Inability or difficulty to see in bright light is known as photophobia. There are many causes of photophobia like migraine, eye diseases like glaucoma, aphakia, iritis, corneal ulcer and cataracts.
I would suggest you to please consult an ophthalmologist and get a complete eye exam done. Take care!

I have visited an opthamologist and been given the all clear from those tests too, that was the first step I took once these symptoms began I immediately suspected something to do with the eyes. It seems strangely coincidental that the vision problem began after my first migraine attack which affected my vision with an aura which preceded the migraine. There has to be some kind of drug out there which can at least minimise the symptoms, even that would be a blessing in itself!!

Hi,

How are you?
Isoproterenol has been found to helpful in reducing the ocular symptoms of migraine.
Please discuss this with your treating doctor.
Magnesium supplements are very helpful in prophylaxis of migraine. I would suggest you to try these if possible.
Take care!
