very worried

by pbiscuit, Jul 24, 2008 11:26PM
hi.  I am 7 months pregnant and had a sonogram done today. My doctor said that my baby has 1 mm more fluid around (?) the brain than "normal".  He wants me to go for another sonogram with a specialist.  He didn't go into detail -- I think he doesn't want to scare us, but he said it probably isn't anything.  I'm really worried and wanted to know how common this is, what it can lead to, if there are any preventions, and how it happened??

I'm sorry this is happening but I don't have an answer for you either. Most anomolies (problems) in the womb correct themselves before birth, so please don't worry yourself sick over this. Just wait for the specialist to give you a better clue as to what may be going on!

pbiscuit~ I'm sorry for the worry. He may just want you to see the specialist to make sure it's nothing major. Sometime's "normal" is different for some baby's.

I think that if it's only 1 mm more that it's not something you need to be really worrying about too terribly much. Just wait til you see the specialist and ask all your questions. Unfortunately I'm not sure if any other women on this forum have delt with that problem.

im sorry this is happening to you...you never want to hear that something may be wrong with your unborn child..all i can say is try to relax until seeing the specialist...a lot of the time doctors see something that alarms them so they want to get a second opinion just to make sure things are alright..example- my cousin was five months along went in for an ultrasound her doctor told her the baby had too small of a head for being five months along..so she went to a specialist, that doctor then told her you have nothing to be alarmed about your baby is healthy just a week or so behind with your due date...i hope that can put your mind at ease i know its not the exact situation your going through but somewhat..
as for your other questions as far as preventatives their aren't we can't really control what happens to our unborn child, the only thing would be to do a family history but why your going to love your child regardless if they have a prob or not right? regardless of whether or not something is wrong with your unborn child the specialist should most deff be able to explain why this happened...
