Cyst in the back of my throat

I had a common cold, that gave me broncitus and these weird white spots on my toncils. We went to the doctor, and he said that the spots were because my toncils caved inwards, so I just need to poke them and they come out (Beleive me, I was freaked out) But I am getting over broncitus at the moment. And I had a random spot in the back of my throat that finally went away about a week and a half ago. But what was left, was a small yellow puffy thing in the back of my throat! (You can see it with a flash light) so far, it hasnt gotten smaller. Just a little bigger. We went to the doctor, he said it would have to be drained by needle. I don't like that idea... What will happen if I just let it pop?
