The best thing to do is wait a week and in the absence of your period to test again. If it is still negative, then a call to your doc for direction would be in order. If positive, then it is a different phone call to the doc.
A "typical/average" period is 28 days (from the FIRST day of bleeding until the start of the next period -- not counting the next start day) HOWEVER a normal period is anywhere from 21 to 35 days.
It has been 30 days since your last period, although you had spotting at 26 days, so I'm not clear how if your periods are irregular, that this is late for you. Please clarify what you mean.
Did you have unprotected sex since your LMP? Anytime around your fertile period?
It could be that it is too early to test, that your period was unusual this month (the spotting) or that the stress of worrying about whether you are pregnant or not is delaying it.

Good luck!
