flickering

How long does flickering after cataract surgery last?  My doctor tells me it will go away.  I had the surgery (on the right eye) 18 days ago.  (The left cataract on the left eye was done the first of June with no problems at all)  I"m not too concerned as my eyes are clear and I can see beautifully.  But, the flickering is there in bright lights and no one has given me a  length of time, approximately, of how long this can last.
                                         Thank you.  Joanie

There are several causes of flickering but the most common cause is "dysphotopsia" due to the optical abberations of the IOL.

If you had a multifocal IOL (Crystalens, ReStoR, ReZoom) it is LESS likely that the flickering will go away than if you had a monofocal IOL.

If it hasn't cleared by 6-9 months it likely will not stop but in general people get use to it and tune it out due to neuro-adaptive mechanisms.

I wish this issue had been discussed with me as a side effect. I have Menieres, and it makes me dizzy and nauseous. I wouldn't have had the surgery until there was no other choice.
