AF and Cycle question

I just got my first AF on the 22nd after d&c june 17th, today makes CD4 and im only spotting right now, the first 3 days were a medium flow, my period b4 m/c i bleed 6-7 days of heavy to medium flow. Should i be checking to see if im ovulating at this point or during the CD11
i guess im asking even if you have a shorter period like only 3 days you still count CD's up to day 11 b4 checking for ovulation. Im just so nervous about trying again and dont want to miss the opportunity for august, I feel real good about august and september, like one of those months is for me:)
