Yeast Infection (Male)

by ck89, Jul 25, 2008 12:40PM
Hello and thank you for reading my post. I visited the doctor about 3 days ago for some unusual redness and 2 small white blister looking spots on my penis head. He diagnosed it as a yeast infection, which I contracted from a partner that had one but was unaware of it at the time. I was on Augmentin (antibiotic) for a foot infection about a month ago and then soon started developing stomach cramps. I figured the cramps were related to what was wrong with my penis. The doctor said the antibiotics killed off the good AND bad bacteria in my stomach leaving me vulnerable to contracting this yeast infection, even on my penis head. Does this sound unusual, just kinda looking for opinions! He told me to take Diflucan once to re stabilize my digestive system and take acidopholus once daily. He also directed me to buy monstat topical cream to apply three times a day and selsun blue to apply once daily for 20 minutes, wow! I am not noticing anything getting better and was wondering how long before I should notice anything changing. My stomach cramps have subsided but not the infection on my penis tip.

The diflucan and cream should be enough - if you use selsun blue on top of it, you are in danger again of killing off more good stuff, thereby leaving you susceptible to getting a bacterial infection.

The diflucan alone might be enough, anyway.  Up to you if you want to use the cream.  If you do, only apply it to the affected area.

Yeah, the whole tip of my penis has a rash now and burns. I am not sure if that occurred because of the use of selsun blue? So, I have stopped using it and started applying the monostat all over the tip now.

You can probably even take a few days off of using any of the cream.  The diflucan will still be working in your system, so you should just let things heal.

Could using the topical cream consistently make things "worse"?

No, but most of those creams say you shouldn't use them on irritated or broken skin.  It won't make the yeast worst, but can cause further irritation.
