bad ekg

by rosalie67, Jul 25, 2008 01:14PM
I recently took an ekg and it read "normal sinus rhythm. possible left atrial enlargement,
inferior infarct, age undetermined, abnormal ecg

I took an echocardiogram but will not have results for 2 weeks.  I have high ldl, tri,, chol.high& blood pressure,
the MD gave me indapamine, simvastatin. amlodipine benazepril.

I am nervous and afraid.  do you have any suggestions?

You shouldn't be afraid.  The EKG is not a perfect test and may be a false positive in your situation.  The echo will be more accurate.  I am assuming that you don't have chest pain and that you have a normal exercise capacity.  At this point, you should continue taking your meds and follow up with the echo as scheduled.  Take a daily ASA.

Thank you for your answer.  I am waiting for the results of the Echocardiagram which I will find out about on August 4th.  It seems the report was sent to India to be typed which really surprised me.  Quite honestly,  I am still frightened.

I don't have chest pain and I swim every day but I don't know if that means I am ok.  You mentioned my taking a daily ASA.  What is that?

I assume you are a doctor.  I never wrote to MedHelp before so this is new to me.  I am a psychotherapist but I am having trouble dealing with my fears.

I hope to hear from your soon.  God bless you.

Dear Rosalie67,

I noticed your message in the forum and wanted to reassure you that the answer you received is indeed from a Cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center.  As a matter of fact, the Cleveland Clinic has been ranked by US News & World Report as the #1 Heart Center in America for 13 consecutive years.    Each year US News & World Report publishes a list of "America's Best Hospitals" - by medical specialty.

Hope this helps.
