Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and need some help understanding my wifes symptoms. My wife is 35 years old. She gets the most weird sikeness and i have a hard time helping her treat them as they are not very normal. I live in Fiji and the doctors here are at best just OK. For about 3 to 4 months during the year she gets sick. Her symptoms will range from electrical shock type sensations in various parts of the body to severe bone pain usually in no sepeicfic places. They will occur in the most unlikely places like the facial bones or the ribs etc. They are not confined to the joints like any other illness. She will also get reoccuring tonsils without any fever or other flu like symtoms except maybe a runny nose sometimes. On occasion she will get small pimple like rashes with puss in them around the upper neck and upper back and a butterfly like swelling under both eyes where the cheek bones are. She will generaly feel unwell however her physical apperance will be perfect. No weight loss or other more obvious symptoms. She cannot drink alcohol because  we have noticed immediate bone pains when she consumes even 1 glass and bruising on various places in the body similar to being punched by someone after a day or 2. I am guessing that my wife my be allergic to a few things thus the post. Aside form the alcohol related reactions all other symtoms hit her hardest during the colder  and windy months in Fiji which is from May to September.

Are the above symptoms allergy reactions or could it be something else.

If someone has been feeling the same way or has delt with the same type of symptoms please let me know.

I would consider asking your wife's physician about lyme disease (if you guys have it in Fiji), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and/or fibromyalgia.

Hello,

How are you?

The features that you mentioned can be due to SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus). Lupus is a condition characterized by chronic inflammation of body tissues caused by autoimmune disease. When only the skin is involved, the condition is called discoid lupus. When internal organs are involved, the condition is called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Both discoid and systemic lupus are more common in women than men.

Common complaints and symptoms include fatigue, low-grade fever, loss of appetite, muscle aches, arthritis, ulcers of the mouth and nose, facial rash ("butterfly rash") and photosensitivity to light.

Diagnosis is made by physical examination, blood tests, ESR, ANA testing, direct analysis of internal body fluids, and tissue biopsies.

There is no permanent cure for SLE.Treatment is to relieve the symptoms.

If you are suspecting allergy to alcohol or cold weather, you can get it diagnosed by skin ***** or patch tests from a qualified dermatologist. For cold urticaria, place an ice cube on the patient's forearm for 4 minutes and observe the area for 10 minutes afterwards. If the patient has cold urticaria, the area will become itchy and then swell approximately 2 minutes after removing the ice cube.

Another possibility from these symptoms is Gaucher’s disease which is an inherited metabolic disorder that leads to the accumulation of a particular fatty substance throughout the body. Diagnosis is by a bone marrow biopsy or specific blood tests.

So, pls consult a physician for a confirmatory diagnosis as treatment will depend on the same.

Take care and God bless.
