i've been using proactiv for the past 5 weeks for my mild to moderate acne, and i noticed my skin become gradually worse, and now it is so bad i can't stand to look in the mirror. it is painful, itchy, and extremely unsightly. not only is my skin still oily, but now it is flaky and dry. it hurts to touch and impossible to cover. please help.

Hi

I advise that you stop using the medications. We may be dealing with a hypersensitivity reaction here also. It is best to give your skin some "rest" first. Based on your post, you seem to have sensitive skin. Wash the face with a mild cleanser such as Cetaphil. Pat your skin dry and apply moisturizer to prevent the skin from drying. Get a hypoallergenic sunscreen to protect the face. Have a consult with a dermatologist. You may need topical corticosteroids for some areas of the face. Also, for severe forms of acne, oral antibiotics may be needed.
