Waking up with headaches for the past week.

by crid, Jul 26, 2008 01:22PM
For the past week or so, I've been waking up with a very stiff neck. Its sore and then later on in the day, it leads to a headache. I've been taking allergy medicine, so it shouldn't be that. I'm not sure what it could be. Today I have a pretty bad headache that is spreading into my neck. I took 1000mg of extra strength tylenol and it did absolutely nothing. I also have really bad TMJ(temporomandibular joint syndrome-both sides of my jaw crack and dislocate). Could that be the reason why I'm all of a sudden having these headaches?  And if it is the TMJ that is causing these headaches, how can I treat it? Because no one is helping. I'm a 16 year old female, otherwise healthy.

Hi,
I am glad that you asked this question here and we will be glad to answer it for you.

I think you answered yourself and TMJ syndrome could be a possible reason. You may have to use better pain killers for this. Do you have any other tingling or numbness at the site?

This may also be due to some other injuries in the neck region. Do you recall any?

Also check the pillow and bed that you may be using. Is it too soft or too hard? You may have to change them to check.

Let me know if you may have any other questions.
