Tachycardia and Skipped Beats

by angeldk, Aug 01, 2008 08:12PM
I'm 23 years old with a cardiac history growing up. Nothing serious, just slight mvp and murmur which I pretty much grew out of. I have a strong family history of arythmias and the whole nine yards, so I always had yearly check ups through high school. Recently,(past few months) I have felt increasing palpitations and tachycardia. My resting pulse is usually near or over 100bpm, so I never really thought anything of it. The palpitations feel like skipped beats and have been confirmed to be anything from pac, pvc, or pjc...all of which I know is benign. After being on a 10 day monitor, they find my heart rate to sinus tach up to the 180s at any given time, many times when I'm just sitting around, with bouts of the skipped beats here and there. I have had 3 syncopal episodes with 2 of them being after I have felt my heart rate start to climb (pulse taken has been in 130s- 160s) and one with a period of what felt like skipped beats every few beats. I'm not out for very long but it definately doesn't seem right. The dr. wants to do a tilt next week and if that is negative diagnose inappropriate sinus tach and put me on Tenormin. Does this sound right? Anyone experience this? Thank you!

Hi there,Im sorry your going through all of this!I too have been dealing with the extra beats (pvcs) for many years now!I was 19 when it all started.I too normally have a resting pulse of 100..ever since I can remember it has been on the high side.So you have actually passed out? When you say Dr do you mean Cardiologist??Hopefully you do because of the eppisodes you are having should be addressed by a cardio or electrothesiologist. It sounds like you are having all the test you need to find out whats going on so thats good!I hope everything is ok untill your tilt table test..let us know..take care!

Hi! Thanks for the response! I do mean cardiologist...I was put on a 24 hour then switched to a 10 day monitor after the readings came in and thats what caught the heart rates. They say they might want to send me to an electrophysiologist if the tilt comes back negative just to see where the racing is coming from. I'm so nervous about the tilt test...the thought of passing out again is sickening. I don't know why I've passed out to begin with I'm just hoping this will bring some kind of light on it.
