My husband was diagnosed with ALS 18 months ago by a neurologist. We got a second opinion from another neurologist who thinks it could be MMN.He has IVIG treatments every 4 weeks. He is still lifting weights at the gym 3 days a week. He has atrophy in his left hand and has fasiculations. Other than that he seems fine. Do you think this could be MMN.
does mmn lead to paralysis or death
Hi,
How are you?
MMN is multifocal motor neuropathy. It is a progressive muscle disorder characterized by muscle wasting, cramping, and involuntary contractions or twitching of muscles.
It is often confused with ALS, though unlike ALS it is treatable. The early cases require no treatment. In patients with severe symptoms IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulins) are given or an immunosuppressive therapy like cyclophosphamide is given.
Improvement in symptoms starts 4-6 weeks after treatment.
Hope this helps!
