Just be prepared - being dx'd with thyroid disorders and suffering mood swings and depression - most doctors will not put the two together.
I call it ignorant.
I suffered many years not treated appropriately and was ran through the mill on the anxiety and depression thing. Seeked mental health counseling per doctors oders which was the biggest waste of time for me. I was "clinically " depressed - not mental!
It became somewhat amazing that after I switched my thyroid meds and became stable - the depression and anxiety lifted.
The psych I had was more interested in talking about my problems ( God only knew I heard about his!) LOL
I think he belonged in the couch!
trying to take it one day at a time...... going to this forum does help a lot!!! im trying to understand my sickness through the people who knows it best of course and that would be from all of you who are experiencing the same thing i do... hope all of us gets better soon!!!! thyroid *****!!!!!!
I am also having a hard time with this thyroid thing. I think mine is a combination of thyroid, frustration over not feeling good, inability to lose weight, and people not understanding the fatigue I feel everyday.
Well, isn't that enough to make someone depressed? I take anti-anxiety and just started an anti-depressant. It took me a while to admit I needed it, but I'm glad I did.
I have had a hard week. PMS time on top of everything.
This is a good place to talk things out.
Hope you get to feeling better.
Hi,
Yes! It is related. You can fill at Walmart for $4.00 Go check. Take thyroid meds. Read more. One day at a time!
I really am sorry for your recent trouble. I have a suggestion about the thyroid medication you were on. Depending on what you were on --- I know for sure Levothyroxine and Synthroid --- it is part of a reduced cost for prescription campaign WAL-MART does, you can get your prescription filled for $4.00. I think, but I am not sure, that the price is with or without insurance. I get my Levothyroxine filled at Walgreens and pay $4.86 for it. I do have insurance and have no idea if insurance pays any part of it. I just thought I would pass that along to you. Financial strain can further complicate any problems so I just wanted to put it out there in case you are not aware. I hope you get to feeling better soon! You may have to go to a doc or clinic to get your levels tested before you begin a new prescription (for your own safety).
Big hugs to you and welcome to the board, THERE ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE HERE, and most importantly, know that you are not alone.

This can absolutely make you feel depressed - e.g., I was diagnosed as hypothyroid after I started on antidepressants and the psychiatrist ordered initial blood work. You should try to get back on thyroid hormone, because this will help the most. Antidepressants can also be helpful, though, especially if the mood problems are causing disruptions in your life. Good luck!
i greatly appreciate this, wanted you to know that im crying right now for your sincere message. I love my husband dearly and i don"t want to ruin our marriage because of this stupid illness. well hope everything would work out good for you as well. i have been reading through some of the comments here in this site and some people experiencing this illness is stating that you just need to find the right medication to have our lives as normal as possible. You could try checking it out too, and ask your doctor about those medicines, maybe it would work better for you. Be keeping in touch.
You are most definitely not alone. If you could have seen me yesterday. My doctor has not diagnosed me officially with a thyroid disease. I had a PT due to a nodule in my left thyroid and was put on meds. Since I started taking the meds a little over 2 months ago, my life has been a mess. I am not myself.
Just let your husband know that you are aware of the mood swings and just want him to hug you and reassure you that you will be alright. For him not to take it personally. And most important let him know that you love him and just hang in there. It will all work out and you will be fine.

thank you so much for the quick reply.. I am glad to hear that what i am feeling is not because im going crazy or something. I was diagnosed 4 years ago and right now i have not really been going back to doctors to check the status of my illness and have stopped medicating as well. Not because i purposely wanted my sickness to get worst of course but due to some financial problems i am having right now. But i do have plans to have it completely treated. For the past years i am experiencing constant mood swings causing difficulty with my relationship with my husband. As of right now im really feeling low, a slight depression i think. And im not sure if should go to a psychiatrist to have my depression treated or this roller coaster emotions are just part of this thyroid problem. thanks again im glad i found this site so i could share my emotions and be surprised that i am not actually alone :)
Yes, depression is often part of hypothyroidism especially when first diagnosed. Things should get better when you are on the right treatment, also, your doctor might consider putting you on anti-depressants too for a while to lift your mood. Hope this helps.
