My shrink prescribed me Buspar about 10 years ago and it worked, is non addictive and helped with my anxiety, but I not longer take it for about 3 or 4 years. I'll ask him , I'm a little concerned with the withdrawal using a long term life like Valium, I know it works, according to Dr. Ashton, but I am worried it will become addicted to it.
Thanks for the input to all of you.
Bob
buspar is a type of antidepressent that helps mainly with anxiety/and works best when it has built up in ur system like an AD does....many say it has an instant anti-anxiety effect for them...no sedation like benzo and not known to be on the top categories of addicting drugs like benzos.....everyone is different tho and anything can be abused even buspar but is not a drug of choice for most like a benzo would be...so it is considered much safer but no instant effect as a rule...valium is often used as a detox for stronger benzos like xanax and ativan.....benzo dot org dot uk has some great info on benzo tapering.......i have never heard of a buspar addict but i have not heard of everything yet!
like stated above everyone reacts differently...some ppl find buspar to be really effective with panic attacks and anxiety, but with withdrawal its a lot harder,..i would try for getting off of xanax with a long acting benzo like valium or librium...it both have a long half life unlike xanax so its easier to taper and a little less addictive, while still stopping any discomfort or withdrawal.
everyone is different but buspar didn't do anything for me at all, I might as well have taken asprin ...
