by susan950, Aug 22, 2008 11:34AM
HELLO,
I AM NEW..

I HAD A EP STUDY DONE WEDNESDAY FOR SVT''S, AFIB, AND SYNCOPE,  my MD showed me where my heart rate would be 145 and then drop to 12  several times a day...

my MD was not able to ablate my area of trouble because it was where the natural pacemaker is???  so he started me on sotolol... 40mg bid...

im not feeling the dizziness that i had before and i dont feel my heart rhythm going out of whack all the time, but i do still feel my heart beat skip on occassions..

is this normal? will this continue???

will i always be on sotolol???

How do you feel after the ep study? I am having mine soon. I had to switch ep because where he does the study my insurance does not cover so I have to start with new ep where the hospital is cover. The hospital is about hour and half away compared to 20 mins to home and I was see this ep for over 3 years. I was schedule this month but now I have appointment with ep Aug 27. Did you feel anything unusual  or painful during study? My ep is doing study because I can not take any+meds.+I+have+sinus+node+dysfunction+due+to+scarring+from+previous+surgery.+Keep+us+updated.

As for the "skipped beats," yes it is very normal for you to still feel those even while on beta blockers.  They are more a nuisance than anything.

I find your symptoms interesting.  I've had syncope and very rare SVT for a very long time.  I've never had the EP study done though.  My symptoms were never severe enough.  I'm glad the satolol seems to do the trick!!!

By the way...I noticed the ??? near the "natural pacemaker" portion of your post.  Thought I'd take a minute to help you understand.

The sinus atrial node is a clump of cells in your heart that put out an electrical current that causes the rest of your cells in the atrial center of your heart to contract.  The electrical current continues into the ventricular node and causes the bottom of the heart to contract immediately after that.  Sometimes the "regular" cells in the heart start to send out electrical signals that cause a part or all of the heart to beat at the "wrong" time and this causes things like PVC's, SVT, a-fib etc.  Unfortunately if the troublemaking cells are too close to your true pacemaker they can't destroy them or else your heart cannot beat at all, and that's just not really considered the best cure :-).

Take care.

thanks for the info..

my symptoms of syncope started in june, sitting in front of computer and suddenly things became black, next thing i know i wake up on the floor... of course i was alone with a baby in the house.. ..

after finally going to MD and trying to find out what was going on, i had event monitor on for 3 weeks, and thats where things were found,  i had several more syncope episodes, with frequent bouts of dizziness.. ...

now im just worried that the skipped beats will turn into the dyrrythmias again.
my Md said if he would have ablated the area i would have ended up with pacemaker now, or later,
