Just wondering...

My boyfriend has been diagnosed as having genital warts for awhile, and before I knew this we had unprotected sex once or twice,  and when he told me I figured I had it, so we continue to have unprotected sex sometimes. (I use the pill) Anyway, a ew weeks after I had been exposed, I got a new doctor and she did a pap smear,  which came up fine. Does this mean I dont have them? I'm still pretty sure I do, from what I've read this is often symptomless and may take years to show up. I'm not upset really I just would like to know what I can do to reduce my chances of complications and cervical cancer, I already have an appt with the doctor, are there any more questions I should ask, and could anyone tell me the early signs or anything I should be looking for?
I also have bladder&kidney issues, as well as chronic stomach pain and some other weird symptoms I've had for awhile before that.

You have been exposed to HPV - no way around it.  100% of women with cervical cancer have HPV, but not 100% of women who have HPV get cancer.  So, your immune system may supress it, and you may never show symptoms.  However, you need to get your PAP done annually and be aware of your body and any changes.  I was on the pill years ago, my husband had protected sex with a girl with warts, however he contracted a wart where the condom did not cover his penis (at the top by the testicles) and 16 years later I now am having problems with inflammation and vaginal discomfort.  I never broke out with warts, but know I have HPV.  Also, you may never show symptoms and be fine for the rest of your life.  Stay healthy, have protected sex - and don't keep having sex with him with those warts - you are pushing your luck!  He needs to get rid of them and be responsible to himself and you!  Don't forget, this can show up 20 years from now, so keep up with your PAP!

i don't believe 100% of women who have cervical cancer have HPV....that is a overgeneralization....and absent of a thin prep test telling u u definitely have HPV u don't know that u definitely have it.....and u need to go educate urself on HPV transmission under the doctors forum-std's.......Drs.Hook and Handsfield have 30 years of xperience tween them...in most cases HPV doesn't lie dead for 20 years and just re-occur absent of being re-xposed to a new strain......both of u need to go and read!:)

Thank you,  I am very attentive to my body and i usually get 2 or 3 paps done a year, because before this I was experiencing symptoms and still sometimes do that are similar to those from an std, but nothings been found so far.  Also,  my bf has only had 2 or 3 very very tiny warts that I've seen,  he gets them removed by a derm. If he hadnt shown me them I wouldnt even have seen them at all!
Could someone who has it describe what the symptoms feel like?

i had high risk HPV a year ago...u don't feel anything from it!i had the LEEP surgery and felt very little from that.......but post op was a tad of drag......what they burn off ur cervix comes out for about a month!

Genital warts (low risk HPV) does not cause cancer.  A negative HPV DNA test sometimes means nothing in the case of HPV, as it does not detect infections of the labia, parts of the vagina, etc- only the cervix.  It may take time for you to develop symptoms, or you may never develop symptoms- it works differently in different people.  No LEEP procedure will be warranted in your case, unless you are to ever have high risk HPV.  In cases of genital warts, they are removed a number of different ways, most of which are predominantly just uncomfortable as opposed to truly painful.  We all get HPV, it is nothing to lose sleep over.  Hope this helped.
