Mysterious Bump

by carrieadmin, Aug 24, 2008 02:17AM
I found a mysterious little bump on the opening of my vagina a month ago. It is hard and skin-colored and looks similar to a pimple. It doesn't hurt at all.

I thought maybe it was a genital wart and that I had contracted HPV, but when I went to the doctor she said it was likely that it had always been there and I never noticed. I told her that it hadn't been there before and she said that it was nothing to worry about, just to keep an eye on it to see if it grew. A week later my pap smear/HPV results came back normal (meaning I don't have HPV). I also have had the first shot of the Gardasil vaccine.

Well now this bump has grown at least 50% and has lightened slightly in color (to a lighter pink than the skin around it). From what I can gather on the internet genital warts are caused by HPV, but if I don't have HPV, what is this bump?

It could be a bartholins cyst. These cysts develop on the opening of the vagina at or around the barthoin's gland. This gland is responsible for secreting lubrication during  intercourse. Usually these are painful though. Just a though. Best of luck hon
