Numbing pain in legs

hi , my mum is in a lot of pain in her legs for quite some time now, she has been given painkilling tablets which are not really helping . She now says that from her Bum to the bottom of her feet feels numb. can you please help give me some advice as she struggles to get to work , she is 59 years old. She has an appointment with the doctors again on the 16th Sept , thats the only time they can fit her in .
