Regression of Potty Training - naps only

by Mondavi, Apr 04, 2007 12:00AM
Hello all,

I have been reading a bit, but can't seem to find a case like mine.  Any and all advice would be much appreciated.

For about 3 weeks now, my 4-year old son has been wetting on himself ONLY at nap time at his daycare.  There has been one big change in that he moved rooms to the 4/5 year old room, so we thought that was most likely the reason.  At this point, he is having an accident every single day while he is sleeping. He has been fully potty trained since he turned 3 years old and this is the first major issue we've had.

I guess we just don't know how to address it since he is only doing it during his sleep. We have taken him to the Dr (no health issues, uti etc), we have offered rewards for staying dry, the teachers personally take him right before nap and also monitor his drinking at lunch...still, nothing seems to work. We ask him all the time if there is something bothering him, is somone picking on him etc...nothing to indicate that is the case.

After 3 weeks of this, I just don't know what to do. We thought it would resolve itself, but it doesn't seem to be doing that at all.

Any ideas or thoughts?  Thanks so very much!!

Is his nap time like,  20 minutes or so?  It seems hard to believe if he pees right before naptime,  that he could possibly wet himself in the next 20 minutes or so.  When they take him to the restroom,  are you sure he actually goes,  or does he just get walked down there and back?

Best wishes.

Actually, he naps about 90 minutes.  I asked the same question if he was playing in the bathroom or actually going, they watched him go on several occasions.

He has been staying dry through naps for about the past year with no problem...until now.

Mention it to his doctor, perhaps he has a uti.

To: Child regressing with regards to potty training
My daughter is almost 3 and at one point was progressing just great with potty training.  Then one day - end of May she decided she wanted no part of it.  I have been trying everything but she just doesn't want to go in the potty.  I've even bought new panties that she liked but when I put them on her she still will not go in the potty.  I hear they don't like being wet so that wearing panties may help.  Well, not in my case, she doesn't care about being wet.  So I am giving up and still buying pull-ups.  Even when I ask her if she has to go she says no and will go in her diaper.  It is driving me crazy.  She is an only child so there is no new baby in the picture.  She is in preschool but this happened after she started school.  Her teacher tells me she will go at school with no problem but not at home at least not for me.  She will sometimes go for my husband but struggles with me.
Any words of advice.
