I have been addicted to these for 11 years now. I am 29 years old. I first took them at age 18 after my boyfriend at the time introduced me to them. We both got addicted quick. I have been arrested for shop lifting them, OD;d, lost jobs, failed tests, and pretty much everything you can think of on these things. I did have about 3 years of sobriety off these things from 2012-2015 and getting off them was the hardest thing I;ve ever done. My body and mind were and now are again severely addicted. I would get the worse night terrors and night sweats anytime I would quit. The reason I had started up again in 2015 was because I had switched me addiction to alcohol and it was ruining my life as well so I switched back to those pills. I am way less crazy on them, alcohol I black out and put other peoples life in danger, not just mine own which is unacceptable. That boyfriend who introduced me to them originally I was with for 10 years off and on, he is no longer with us and drowned in 2013 while drunk and high on these pills. They are extremely hard to get off of but it is possible. Just don;t give up on her. These pills really are the devil. I wish no one to go through what I have with these pills but unfortunately it seems to be a growing trend. People don;t realize just how deadly and dangerous DXM is. But it def is. I have seizured more times than I count on these. They don;t even have any affect on me like they used to but mentally I;m still very much addicted and trying to quit. I pray for anyone struggling with this.

I am 16 as well and I am trying to get off them. Im not addicted because I just do it for giggles and grins due to the fact that its funner than i dont know what, but there are those people out there who get addicted their first, second, or even third time.. fortunately IM not one of those people... i would suggest getting her into counseling and figure out the best way for her to deal with this mentally... as far as physically goes well im not so sure... just make sure she doesnt have any access to any medicine containing DXM or any generic. hope this helps :( and best of luck to u both.

I am 20 years old i have been taking triple cs for about 4 years off and on. I have had secers i have od 4 times and have acculay stoped breathing and almost died on these red devils. I also have uncontrolable twitchs and head aces. I have been locked up because i have stollen these things. I have benn kick out of almost every dollar general store for stealing cs. I get mad and have anger fits if i dont get them. The only way that ur daughter will learn is if she sees what kind of damage they can do. I know that when i get older i will have brain and nerve problems. I DONT KNOW IF YALL ARE RELIGOUS BUT JUST PRAY. ALSO TAKE ACTION  MAKE HER RELIZE THAT U R INCONTROL NOT HER AND NOT THE PILLS. SET UP RULES LIKE IF SHE GOES TO ANY STORE GO WITH HER. IF SHE GETS HIGH TAKE HER PHONE AWAY OR KICK HER OUT OF THE HOUSE FOR A DAY. GROUND HER. HER LIFE IS DEPENDING ON IT. TRUST ME.

She really needs to quit if she hasn't already, I'm a little late reading this, but I hope my personal experience serves as motivation. Back in 07 I took coriciden a few times then stopped, I loved it, tons of fun, it was a good trip. In 08, I was at the lake with my friend, we were partying and getting drunk, I decided to take coriciden again just for fun.. BAD IDEA! I started to freak out, had shortness of breath, felt like I was gonna die, and could barely function. For a few days after that I would feel weird doing even small things like smoking a ciggarette. After a while it calmed down. It's 2010, and I still get random chest pains and feel like I'm gonna die if I take medicine that even looks like coriciden, such as advil. I start to get really hot, uncomfortable, and nauseus. I'm not really sure if you'll even read this seeing as though your post was in 08. Hope it helps someone!

My daughter just turned 15 and is doing the same thing - I do not know how to stop it but it has taken over her entire life - there are extreme dangers involved here and the 1st thing we can do is make it to where she can't get the meds! The kids are "pharming" which meand going through your family and every friends family med cabinets for the meds and it is not just coricidin - anything containing DXM - robitussin, Nyquil, and many more over the counter meds that contain it - it gives them a hallucination trip like acid or lsd - especially with energy drinks, alcohol, and or other meds involved - I have been on the net researching this for the past 2 days since I found my daughter intoxicated for the 2nd time and friends running out her window - I am going to fight for a law to be passed - these drugs are in some stores placed behind the counter - but not all and there is no rule about age restrictions in purchasing them except for a small amount of stores - we need all stores carrying these products to have them behind the register! The only main rule about them is that you can not purchase more than 3 of the same product - that is too easy to get around - gather your friends - everyone get 3 and we have a big party - this is not acceptable! Call your local stores, schools, and city and state government! This has to change - our kids are at stake!

When I was a teenager......God, forgive......I was addicted to Sudafed.  I found that it helped me keep my weight down.  I would drink Iced tea all day with it and I was buzzing like a bee !  For me it was a mental addiction and I just naturally stopped.  If you can tell us the amounts she is taking it and when & why...we can probably answer you better.

Please come back and post.

Luv,
Nauty................

Sorry this has gone unanswered. Some might not have seen it or know what it is.

I don't know too much about these addictions with cough medicine. I am not sure how on earth they even get high from. How long has she been doing it and how much is she taking?

The first step is the addict acknowledging they in deed have a problem. Now that she has done that, she very much has the potential of getting over this. Addiction is tough and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. She needs support and care. Have you talked to a dr.about this yet?
