Help.. Huge lump on my thyriod..

I recently discovered a huge mass on my throat right where my throid is. It is large enough to see with the naked eye when I tilt my head back. It sticks out along my throat. I have an appointment Tue to see my Dr. I have been digging online for some answers or explinations. I have had some shortness of breath and It feels like I have something caught in my throat down deep on that side.
I am concerned. I am only 28yrs young. I have to be honest Google isn't making me feel any better about the symptoms. :)  I am worried sick.

Has anyone out there had the same symptoms and what whats the outcome?? Just looking for a little insite before my appointment. Thanks

Jen

Don't be too nervous.  I had a goiter on my thyroid when I was about 20.  The biopsy was inconclusive.  They removed it to be safe and when it was biopsied after the surgury, it had been a fellicular (sp?) cancer.  Caught early there was no further treatment needed.  Have been on replacement therapy ever since.  The surgury was an easy one and the scar is barely noticeable.  Much better to get it treated.

If they hadn't messed around with my Synthroid dose a couple years ago (once you find a dose that works, leave it alone!), I would have been without problems for 20+ years.

Good for you treating it quickly.

Ask your doctor for a thyroid ultrasound and a referral to a good endocrinologist.   About 95% of thyroid nodules are benign but you need to get a specialist to look at it.

Hang in there - and, as they have said, don't freak.  Things will be okay

Hi.

I discovered a lump in my neck about 8 yrs. ago when I was 29. It wasn't painful, it was just...there. I went to an endocrinologist and they ran a large series of tests and it turned out to be a benign nodule on my thyroid. It wasn't interfering with my thyroid function, it was considered a 'hot' nodule which means that it is attached to my thyroid and is functioning along with it but isn't throwing it off to cause me to be Hyper or Hypo. Come to find out, thyroid nodules are a fairly common occurance in younger people and the majority of them are benign. I am happy to hear you are getting it checked out by your Dr. I hope all turns out well.

Don't freak out! I had the exact same thing happen to me! A year ago. I was 30 and my dad pointed it out at the dinner table! It was big lump that you could see when i turned my head. it was gross. Mine didn't bother me, but its not weird that your does since its close to your trachea.  Anyway -Long story short, i had all the tests, biopsies, scans, ultrasounds,  and stuff they make you do over the course of this year, and i had nothing wrong with me! No cancer, no hypo, no hyper, nothing. So i just finally took it out a month ago. They said it was best to do as a precaution(and for aesthetic reasons). I didn't want that freaky lump there anyway. Now i have to deal with having half a thyroid, and i don't feel so great, but its nothing life threatening! And when i was freaking out, they told me over and over, most lumps- technically called a nodule- are not cancerous, especially in people around our age.
