Mid-chest & constricting throat pain

I have had 5 episodes in a month with a sudden intense and constant pain in the sternum area and immediately thereafter a constricting pain at the top of my throat.  Each time I have been in a sitting position at rest.  Due to not knowing what else to do, each time I took an adult strength aspirin and a CoQ10 and the pain gradually left within minutes.  Do you think this pain is angina or esophageal related, although I do not have a history of reflux or gastro problems?

Have a history of hypertension and murmur due to MVP:  currently taking meds for blood pressure and congestive heart failure.

Thank you for your valuable time and educated opinion.

Hello-
Your symptoms sound similar to what I have been experiencing. Does this pain come while you are at rest, and does it often occur at the same time of day? If so - look into Prinzmetal's variant angina, which is what I think I have. Have been to the ER and all tests came out clear. Heading to see a new cardiologist tomorrow. Good luck!

Esophageal spasm can cause a sudden, intense pain. I've read that heart pain is more a feeling of pressure in the chest. I'm sure it varies from person to person. Considering you have CHF, it wouldn't hurt to mention this new development to your cardio. Aspirin is fine but it also helps with general pain so you still won't know where the pain is coming from.
