Eagle Syndorme

This is in response to the question related to eagles syndorme. I was diagnois with eagles syndrome in the early 90's. I was only 23 yrs old and i had just gratuated and started my career as a teacher and coach. I was experincing pain on the left side of my face only. My ENT docter was John Beatous Of Mandevile, La. He sent me to 3 other doctors to make sure he was on target. I was sent to Charity Hospital at the time and a team of LSU doctors perform surgery by taking out everything on that side of my face. Tonsis, adnoies, and the styliod process. This was one of the most difficult surgeries I ever been through. I was out of work for 3 weeks, could not swallow, pain meds didn't seem to be working, I would spit in a cup to keep from swallowing. I lost right at 20 lbs, but at the time I only weighed 155lbs. The surgery proved to be sucessful for about 3 years and  the pain started to re-surface again. Dr. John Beautous found that there was a lil bud that appeared to be growing. He scheduled a 2nd surgery, which he perform hinself. It was sucessful. I did not experience any pain for well over 15 years. Again some moderate pain surfaced. He indicated that it was scar tissue that was causing the pain and did not recommend another surgery, but to be treated with pains. I don't have severe pain at all, but every once in a while I will have some pain and I treat it with pain medications. I feel that the surgeries proved to be sucessful.  I would recommend having the surgery, my pain is never a constant, like before. Feel free to respone back.

You stated after your surgery you were okay up to a point w/pain; then it resurfaced.  You stated a little bud appeard when the pain appeared and then you had the second surgery.
Question - where exactly is the location of the bud, appearace, texture, & color?
Why?  I have the sme thing....worried that the bud is something other then a  tonsil tag.  Mine is very painful...(the bud) was yours painful?

Yes Eagles syndrome has been treated to a large extent by surgery. However it is important to realize that the first thing is to make an accurate diagnosis. Some patients have undergone surgery and pharmacologic treatment with no results because of misdiagnosis. So it is very important to make the correct diagnosis.
